Over the past decade Temporary Steel Barriers have been introduced to address some of the issues with Portable Concrete Barriers. When comparing the advantages and limitations of the two types, it all comes down to a-Trade-off between COST and DURABILITY + LONGEIVITY + SAFETY!
CONCRETE BARRIER | Weight KG/M |
---|---|
+ ADVANTAGES | + ADVANTAGES |
+Lower in initial costs +Low deflection (necessary anchoring) |
+Crash Tested to the latest standards +Low deflection +No anchoring required +Long life cycle: significantly lighter than portable Concrete Barriers +Reduce the transport required the same lineal length +Reduce vehicle movements to mitigate risks of incident or injury caused by vehicles moving through the work site = site costs are also reduced +Easily recyclable |
- LIMITATIONS | - LIMITATIONS |
-public domain designs and not crash tested to the latest standards -often tested with higher vehicles and not smaller ones, but deemed to comply -Iow deflection only achievable with anchoring -Short life cycle ** -Often up to 3-4 times heavier than steel barriers=increase site delivery time and costs -Difficult to recycle |
-Higher initial costs |
**Construction sites are notoriously rough on equipment and especially naturally brittle concrete, allowing only a 3-5-year life cycle as a serviceable safety barrier. In addition, anchor points on profile create additional wear points, reducing the life span of the barriers.
